How to Install and Configure SmarterMail?

This article introduces the steps for installing and configuring SmarterMail.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit or higher
  • Microsoft .NET 4.7 Framework or higher
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)

Migrate Email Domain

  • Copy the whole folder for an email domain from old mail server to the new one at the same path if both mail servers have the same edition or file structure.
  • Add one line to file domainlist.xml located at path C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service for this domain .
  • Remove all .cfg files from the email domain;
  • Restart the SmarterMail service, the new domain name and all its users will show up.

How to Migrate the Mail Enable From One Server to Another Server?

MailEnable stores the majority of configuration information in text files. Therefore, the procedure for migrating the configuration and data from one server to another will mostly involve copying directories from one server to another and ensuring appropriate permissions have been set.

  • This Knowledge article is only for Standard Edition (FREE).
  • If the new server has a different version of MailEnable, this has only minor differences of the versions. When you migrate, you should do this to the exact same version.
  • If you are wanting to move from 32bit to 64bit Windows (or vice versa).
  • If the install paths are different on the new server.

How to Migrate the Mail Data from Other Mail Service to MailEnable?

This solution is applicable for migration of one single mail account. If multiple accounts are required to be migrated, please repeat account migration one at a time.

  1. Log in MailEnable Web Mail with the target email account. Usually, its link address is mail.domain.com.
  2. Navigate to Options – Advanced – Import, and import mails on a remote mail server.
